Yassass

14 Aug

TKOE – or some of TKOE – are in Crete. I’m a bit ouzoed as I write this, something I’ve not drunk for 34 years following the worst hangover I have ever had. It’s nicer in moderation.

We’re doing hot weather and beaches and lots and lots of sleep. And we’ve also learned that people here are buried for three years and then their families can choose which bones to keep which is both cute and wierd. And the mountains are fabulous.

Just a quick touch base for now. The Internet is a bit dodgy so not going to push my luck. Where have you all been on holiday?

Jo xx

Lots of sleep sounds like a very good idea, I’m sure the heat and moderate intake of ouzo helps with that πŸ™‚ Sounds wonderful! x

Ya, temporary Cretan branch of TKOE. Much as I love Crete, I would find the heat too much in August. Even our friends who live near Kalives still find it A Bit Much, but then, some shade, an endless supply of lemons for the G&T, and that wonderful Greek thing “Avrio” (like Manana but without the sense of urgency)……. Can’t beat it!

We are not long back from Norway – a bit cooler than Crete – we were on the same flight as the King, who was going fishing. Not to be outdone, we all went sea-fishing, that was fun.

Re the bones, have you read Birds Without Wings, the prequel to Captain Corelli? And if you were ever there on Good Friday, they burn Judas in effigy on a bonfire, a sort of Easter Guy Fawkes.

We are near Kalives this week too and spent some time on the beach there today. And no, not read that book but will do. Did you recognise the king then??

Well, only once the cabin crew had prefaced their announcements “Your Majesty, Ladies and Gentlemen” twice – first time I wasn’t really listening, and had one of those “Hang on, did I really hear that?” moments. But then it was obvious once I knew (he was two rows in front of me, and I could see him quite clearly). On the other hand, we would not have noticed otherwise, because there was no fuss, no-one bowed or scraped, and the bodyguard protection was minimal. They are more laid back about these things in Norway.

Our friends live in Kokkino Horio, which is just up the hill, and there is some connection to Zorba the Greek – the film was shot in the area.

We are off to Spain on Sunday and I have to say I’m not looking forward to seeing the faces of the other passengers on the plane when Freddie starts shouting! This time last year we were house sitting for a lovely (but slightly wacky) family and their many cats, chickens and puppy! Ben is holidaying at Tech Camp – he is having an seriously amazing time apparently!
