Did you have a nice Christmas?

29 Dec

We did! I found the build up to Christmas worse this year than last in many ways. Partly because people kept saying it’s the first time that’s the worst. I don’t find so. So thanks for all your christmas messages.

Anway,  we went to stay in the ex Co op in Youlgrave in Derbyshire which is now a Youth Hostel. 12 of us, at various times. Brilliant company, brilliant place, lovely weather (!), lovely presents, lots of food, drinks, walks, laughing, games playing. We played a game of memorial G’day Bruce in the pub on Boxing Day for Rosie; coincidentally met a dog called Bruce shortly afterwards,  and then had a marathon darts match which proved how bad we all are at playing it. No one was injured though ….. at that point.

Later that same evening, Chris claims he fell off my slippers whilst rounding a corner. I don’t know why he was wearing my slippers. And they are completely flat. Anyway, we all heard a loud crash from downstairs; I found Chris dripping in blood, having crashed into the door frame which caused his glasses to gouge across his eye brow. He is now sporting a swollen, blackened eye. That evening he could only wear his glasses by tying them on. We only had streamers to do that with. He now  has miraculously reshaped glasses thanks to a friendly optition, but they are very fragile.

He has tried to invent a convincing story, but the truth has to be told.

We also had the perennial problem of not being able to fit the turkey in the oven. I say we – Nick solved it by a clever origami version of a foil roasting tray. We were without TV or signal and out of the world events for over 48 hours. Marvellous. And now we’re off to visit my mum and dad.

I have to admit that I’m not a Christmas fan. But that aside, yes, we did have a nice time thank you, much improved by having an excited two year old to entertain us.
Your family always do such interesting things. Not sure whether there was any link between the time spent in the pub and the slipper incident (and indeed the sprained ankle) but if so,hope it served to numb the pain a little. And that all casualties are now recovering well. x

What an eventful Christmas had by the Kilburn family & co! Ours was a somewhat quieter Christmas spent at home, visited by the lergi as well as Santa (well, for me anyway!). Still lovely though. Wishing you and TKOE a 🙂 New Year 2013 and of course, speedy recoveries for the xmas injury incurred peeps! (I know of several such xmas injuries…it seems that putting up xmas decs can be a rather dangerous past time!). 😉
