Resting.

2 Sep

I spent yesterday resting because I had a busy couple of days. Today I managed another go in my wheelchair, but I tried the non electric one to see how it felt being pushed around. I think I’m still quite tired though, so tomorrow has got to be another resting day because I ache from all the sitting up.

I have an embarrassing problem that the swelling has caused..my bladder control is all over the place and I have had some accidents.. Mum says it happens to a lot of people so I shouldn’t be embarrassed. It’s easy to sort out, if I do cause a spillage but still, I wish that it would all be in the commode.

The rest of my families presents came today and yesterday. Mum got some origami butterfly earrings and some silver bird earrings. Sylvie got her own box set of Friends – a special extended version. Calum (note the 1 L in his name) got a lego truck to build, which he has already finished haha. Finally, Dad got a giant gummy bear (weighing 2kg and housing 6000 calories), some bacon flavour toothpaste and some dill pickle flavour toothpaste, some gummy bacon and some mints that are meant to taste of cheesy nachos. Greatly received by all. That reminds me, Claire – I love those smiley flower things, they make me laugh, great choice!

As some of you may know, I’ve had an otter named after me! Kilburn the otter looks like this:

P.S There seems to be some confusion..I haven’t kept Denise, she was just visiting for the day!

Well, I guess having an otter named after you must rank as the most unique of the many awards you’ve had! Have never been to the Isle of Skye but have seen the colonies of otters living around the Isles of Scilly and they are such cute creatures.
Sympathies about the bladder stuff. All that swelling is bound to displace things and cause problems like this. I have a close friend with MS who has to deal with this issue, so know that it’s a bit of a pain but it’s only wee at the end of the day.
Love the sound of the gifts for the family. I think we must have a photo of the giant gummy bear before it gets eaten (must be a similar size to a baby otter!) and maybe of Calum’s truck too.
Rest well and get rid of the aching. Love to you all. x

Ro I need to know where all the gifts came from, specially the gummi bear….and I too demand pics!!!!
As for the wee….happens, love, and as Celia says it might be a bit of a pain, but it is only wee:))
Sleep well love, hugs and kisses all round:)
….oh….and that is a great otter!!
    xxxxx

Wow, so that’s Kilburn the Otter. He (now is it a he or a she?) is beautiful!! I have never seen one in such detail before. And how strange to see an otter about to drink from a dog bowl next to its dog bed in a stable!
Your pattern of one day ‘on’ and one day ‘off’ seems to work well for you so you get a spurt of activity and then a day resting – that’s great. Maybe it will be a rest day today then?
I agree with the others that we need to see the gummy bear before Chris polishes it off. I just can’t imagine what it looks like! But bacon toothpaste..ugh!…..the very thought makes me feel sick!!! Is it disgusting? Brilliant presents Rosie!
    Lots of love, Debbie xxx

      I o believe Kilburn is a he 😉

Hi Rosie, brill idea to buy treats for Team Kilburn! Am sure they’re all much apreciated.
Having a rest day seems like a good idea, gives you time to catch up on your sleep etc after all your visitor excitement.
Have gardening to do today, its all in a mess after being neglected for the last six weeks. Spent most of yesterday hoeing, too. Also want to clean up inside the house, ready for the OFF on Wednesday night!
    Nice picture of Kilburn!
    love mags.

What the presents to Chris say about him and his character are…um….

I can’t comment, though, as Matt Ward’s family came back from holiday with the ditsy slightly screw-eyed sparkly toy dragon that I have in my classroom. Apparently, the whole family “saw it and thought of me”. Mm,

    I WANT AN OTTER!!!

    • Lin September 3, 2011 at 8:03 am #

      ME TOO!!!!!! xxxx

      • Maz September 3, 2011 at 10:21 am #

        me three!

      • Michelle September 3, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

        You are all mad!
I am otter obsessed but I don’t WANT one (okay, maybe….)
I visit Gavin Maxwell’s place a lot, he wrote Ring of Bright Water, all about a pet otter he had. One of his otters bit off Terry Nutkin’s fingers.
I would recommend Ring of Bright Water as a good read.

Love Kilburn the otter 🙂 so beautiful. Otters are just wonderful.

Bacon toothpaste? sorry but where do you get that? I have to get some for Bob, he would live on bacon butties if his waistline could cope with it.

    • Michelle September 3, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

I’m going to get some for my Fatman – thanks for this Rosie 😉

Now which bit of the gummi bear is Chris going to eat first? Is he going to nibble at it or cut bits off? Has he eaten it already?
I have a theory about how males and females eat gingerbread men. It’s probably completely rubbish but I noticed this in the office where I used to work. The men always seemed to start at the head end and the women always ate the legs first.

    • Lin September 3, 2011 at 9:26 am #

I would always eat the legs first………..and I just asked Grant and he said the head!!!!!!! Julia, you are a genius!!

      • Julia September 3, 2011 at 9:45 am #

        Why thank you Lin!
Now we just need to work out why…….

      • Maz September 3, 2011 at 9:51 am #

oh no you have to eat the head first otherwise its in pain when you chomp on its limbs!!!!!!!

    • Dollydimple September 3, 2011 at 10:16 am #

      legs, always legs first!
Feel nauseus just thinking about the toothpaste. This blog and the wacky replies make me feel normal- thanks all! x

The bacon toothpaste reminds me of an incident when the girls were little. With clever doctoring of the packaging Hannah managed to trick her older sister Claire into using the dog’s toothpaste (okay, I know we shouldn’t have laughed, but it was really funny at the time…) x

    • Julia September 3, 2011 at 10:01 am #

Your dog has its own toothpaste??

      • celia butler September 3, 2011 at 2:37 pm #

She did (she died some years ago now). Proper canine toothpaste, beef flavoured I think. The bacon toothpaste revived the memory!

Hi Rosie, re the accidents, Jo’s right it happens to a lot of people. I’m at that age when sneezing and too much laughter can have unexpected side effects – and the trouble is that when it happens it just makes you laugh even more which really doesn’t help the situation. I’m trying to put off the day when I have to start buying Tena ladies. Don’t worry about it as Celia says its only wee – as my Mum used to say when we were kids and ended up covered in everything – that’s what soap and water were made for (these days she would say that’s what washing machines are for – told you i was old!!!!)

How cool that you have an otter named after you. By the way when i got home the other day i had another look at the picture of you and Alan – as Samuel L Jackson would say that is one big mother………..

rest well and take care xx

    Otters are awesome! xxx

Mic does have brilliant ideas! I put it down to constant contact with Eshaness. Love, Jill

      • Michelle September 3, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

Well, really the otter thing was – it was strong, strong willed, a real fighter, lived through pain and a survivor.
My thought was ‘it’s like Rosie’ thus the name Kilburn. And I did explain why, it wasn’t just some random thing.
I think they (IOSF) checked out Rosie’s blog too.
And also, in Edinburgh, in M&S some man was collecting for Teenage Cancer and I put money in his tin. I also mentioned TKOE. I do it ALL the time – I spread the lurve for Rosie.

  11. jill Clayton September 3, 2011 at 2:46 pm #

I just tried “cat blog, Eshaness” into Google. The knock-on Effect comes up fourth! If you make it “cancer blog eshaness” it comes up second!
    Love, Jill

    • Michelle September 3, 2011 at 9:02 pm #

How funny. Do you think Eshaness should have her own blog? It wouldn’t say much really.

Quick post to say love your sponcered Otter Rosie, Otter’s are lovely to watch whilst they go about their daily life, especially when you have some free time to watch them, great to photograph if you have the chance too Rosie?

Good to hear you are resting so you can rebuild your strength, we each have good and strenuious days, so now and again we need to savour our remaining strength and allow the body to regenerate new energy so we can do new things in the future.

PS. Using a wheelchair or just riding in one is a challenge Rosie, took me many years to get to accept it was better to be in one than trying to be without it and wearing my body and strength to pieces. Manual wheelchairs are great when you have the energy to propell yourself, but when my mail breast and bone cancer hit then I was forced to use a electric wheelchair, but it also gave me independence has I can control where I am driving.

Take care Rosie, keep building up your energy and doing so many great things for your family and friends too, xxx

What an otter that is, you must be honoured. I didnt realise that otters could be pets. Always learning.
